Personal History Dutch (birth name David, later earning his nickname in Starfleet Academy) Lowek was born and raised an only child in Arlington, Texas. He was popular in school but was very defiant due to boredom issues. He was much more advanced mentally and physically than his peers and acted out because he needed the mental stimulation. He decided to test out of school early at the age of 15 and traveled across the country looking for odd jobs in between his search for a stable career.

After a year of moving around, Dutch looked into enlisting in Starfleet. At the age of 16, he tested among the top recruits and chose to study Intelligence. He loved the challenge and potential excitement that came with a mostly unknown department. The word 'classified' was what drew him in the most.

Dutch worked hard and became one of the most sought-after graduates in his class upon graduation after four years. He earned his nickname "Dutch" from his instructors due to his natural ability to gain the trust of his simulated enemies and effectively double-crossing them ("Double Dutch") during Academy scenarios.

His career files have been sealed by Starfleet Intelligence.

After a mission had gone not as planned, Starfleet Intelligence deemed Dutch a dangerous liability even though his missions had always been a success. He was sent to a permanent desk job and his work partner, Jael Steiger, was sent to serve on the U.S.S. Centaurus. The pair had developed a special bond and a sexual relationship over the course of their three-year partnership. When it was discovered they were going to be separated, the pair decided, after realizing how much they cared for and trusted each other, to get married in order to stay together during Jael's time on the Centaurus. That same day Dutch turned in his pips and resigned from Starfleet and married Jael at City Hall.

The Centaurus turned out to be a frustrating and disappointing home. He witnessed Jael abused by the rough and tumble crew and her brilliant mind being put to waste. He couldn't stand being around them and became secluded and miserable. Luckily his wife was able to notice the change in him. After three months and a meeting with fate, Jael accepted a transfer offer to Deep Space 7, a new starbase run by an old Intelligence colleague. He was looking forward to a more stable, a more normal, environment for them and their future family.
